Ready to start get out of town, grab some Oysters and breathe some fresh air? Potlatch State Park is a great launching point! While there may be less amenities; Potlatch has quick access to the Olympics, Hamma Hamma (a top rated WA Oyster restaurant), Alderbrook Resort and more!
We came here for a quick, local getaway and were blown away at how much fun we had as a family. During a short weekend trip, we spent the days beach combing, playing games, making leaf piles to jump in, grabbing a fun lunch on the water, trekking to Lake Cushman and eating all of the S’mores around the fire.
Pro tips: While you are here, visit Hook & Fork or Hamma Hamma for some fresh Oysters. Hamma Hamma is one of the top places in WA for Oysters — they will teach you how to chuck your own or you can order them to your liking. Hook & Fork at Union City Market is a great place to get your shellfish fill as well! Both locations offer more than just shellfish and have incredible views of the Hood Canal — bring some binoculars for wildlife viewing and bundle up to stay awhile and enjoy the atmosphere.
Also, if you love hikes and lakes; head up to Lake Cushman and Staircase for the day! Lake Cushman’s access is offered through Skokomish Parks and does have an entrance fee for the day. The lake levels are low Labor Day through Memorial Day and have full boating access during the Summer! Staircase is located in Olympic National Park and has several hikes that can be completed.
Looking for a more relaxing getaway? Head over to Alderbrook Resort & Spa for a meal, boating, spa ammenities and more!
WARNING: Potlatch has some small turn arounds… if you tow a larger trailer, pay attention to where your site is and take your time (make sure when you book that you set it for the length you tow… not all sites accommodate trailers well)! We felt like the tent sites offered premier space and privacy; will likely be back to try those next time!
