Summer bucket list

With summer just around the corner, we sat down as a family and started to talk through our must-do activities before fall. We want more time outside, more time as a family, and less time on screens. Ultimately, we are saying yes to adventures; big and small. We hope you want these things too (I mean this is the heart of what Crest and Peak is all about).

So, here’s to summer full of family adventures…

  1. Take a hike

We are so lucky to be on a planet full of creatures big and small. Our favorite hikes happen when we spot some small animals… so don’t forget the binoculars!

  2. Go to the beach

Whether it is sandy or rocky, kids don’t mind…. PRO TIP: go during low tide and explore some tide pools.

  3. Play in the sprinkler/slip n slide

Growing up in the 90s/00s makes this a classic… don’t let the kids have all the fun, show them how it’s done!

P.S. A little dish soap never hurt anybody…

  4. Go to the lake

Bring a floaty, picnic, kayak, paddle board, lawn game, or just your imagination.

  5. Try something new

Skateboard for the first time, go mountain biking, take an art class, or just try anything new… you may just realize you like it.

  6. Paint outside

Grab some paint (acrylic, watercolors, or even some DIY chalk paint), then head outside and create something. It doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be YOURS.

  7. Get ice cream

Do it once, twice, or every night… we don’t judge. Maybe thesis the summer you try every ice cream shop in town and declare the BEST ice cream in your area…. but if you do, please let us know so we can become regulars.

  8. Go to the park

Our goal is to visit local parks we have never been to before. Although, frequenting the local park with happen as well.

  9. Go berry picking

Who doesn’t love a fresh berry? Need I say more?

  10. Build a fort

This could be inside or outside,… just build something together and spend the day playing in the fort.

  11. Sleep under the stars

On weekends we stay home, we plan to set up a tent in the yard, just leave off the rain fly and spend the night taking in the stars. You might even look up some constellations while you are at it.

  12. Have a picnic

A true picnic is better with others, so find some friends with kids and share some food together.

  13. Go on a bike ride

We love taking rides as a family, your kids will too.

  14. Go to a splash pad

Splash pads have popped up everywhere; give it a go and make sure you pack some sunscreen!

  15. Go to the zoo

We love the programming at the zoo and always have a blast spotting new animals.

  16. Have a home made pizza night

This was a classic in our home… PRO TIP: make individual pizzas where everyone gets to build their own creation.

  17. Bonfire

The best nights are spent sharing stories with the crackle of wood, blankets, and stars above.

  18. Outdoor movie night

Watch a movie at your house outside or hit up the local drive-in… this is a classic for us.

  19. Watch a parade

Free entertainment, potential for candy, firetrucks and police cars… it’s a hit all around.

  20. Take a late night walk

Stroll through a campground late a night or just your neighborhood. Soak in the sounds around you while sharing a peaceful moment with the people you love.

  21. Read a book

Read a book for you or a book to your kids. Show them that reading is cool. Frequent the library or book store and track those hours to earn prizes!

  22. Have a dance party

Play some happy music and get moving. Be silly, share some laughs, and create memories.

  23. Bake cookies

Bake some cookies and then eat them…. then bake some more and share them with the neighbors.

  24. Go to the fair

People work all year to put on the fair, support your community and go explore what your community is all about!

  25. Watch a sunrise and sunset in the same day

There is nothing like an early morning sunrise coffee date followed but a late night sunset snuggle. Take in the long days of summer and see the beauty around you from morning until night.
